Earthly Gains aims to be the advisor of choice for organisations that share this aim and that are determined to improve their operations by enhancing environmental and social performance.

I set up Earthly Gains to help companies benefit from the techniques that I have learnt from working with hundreds of companies over the last 25 years. these techniques help businesses to thrive and mean that planet Earth will support future generations. I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to live a comfortable life. To enable this, we have to make best use of the Earth’s resources and business has a big role to play. It is important for businesses to be profitable and to help us all live within the Earth’s capacity. To do this we need to use resources efficiently and treat people fairly. I want to help business to make this a reality. In the Early 1990’s, I managed a project to help companies put in environmental management systems. Everyone thought that this would raise costs and be a burden on management. In fact, all of the companies involved saved money and reduced inefficiencies in their operations. This was an early demonstration that good environmental practice is good for business. From 1998 to 2008, I led a major best practice programme to help businesses in the UK become more resource efficient. It helped many thousands of companies in the UK to save money through environmental improvements and helped to change and embed sustainable behaviours. We found that companies could realistically expect annual savings of at least : £1000 per employee in manufacturing £200 per employee in service industries Of course, many companies saved much more than this. Companies found that cost savings were not the only benefits. When asked how resource efficiency had helped their companies, some of the other top benefits were: improved image with customers improved image with community better working environment improved compliance In the late 1990’s, the concept of sustainability was starting to gain traction with leading companies. Sustainability ensures that economic and social issues are addressed along with environmental ones. I have helped many people understand how to address sustainability in their company and to reap the benefits that being more sustainable can bring.
